Fall Floor Prep

thinkstockphotos-200171284-001Summer may be coming to a close, and winter is still far off, but that doesn’t mean you can slack on taking care of your floors! Year-round floor care is key

to keeping your floors looking great for years to come. There are several things you can do this fall to help keep your floors in top shape, and even make it easier to prep for wintertime! At Flooring Professionals, we want your floor care to be top notch. Check out some of our tips for prepping your floors for the fall season:

Sweep out summer

Between trips to the pool and the beach, there’s bound to be some sand and other bits of dirt in your floors. Make sure to beat and vacuum all entry rugs, and vacuum all floors, especially in high traffic areas. In addition, be sure to shake out all doormats leading into your home.

Prep for cooler weather

As summer fades out and cooler temperatures arrive, the leaves will start falling. While it may be pretty, it can also make a mess in your home! Be sure to trim back any plants and trees that are close to your doorways, and clear all paths into your home. This way, you’ll be less likely to track any leaves or twigs inside.

Whether you have a mudroom, garage, or deck, these are high traffic entryways into your home where your floors can get the dirtiest, the easiest. Since you wont be wearing flip-flops as much in the fall, place sturdy mats at the high traffic entryways into your home. This way, you can scrape off your boots or sneakers before coming inside. Doormats are an easy way to keep from tracking debris over your floors!

Stock Up

Having some dirt and debris tracked onto your floors is inevitable (especially if you have children!), so having cleaners on hand is important. Keep a small vacuum in a downstairs closet for easy access, and a broom to sweep up any dirt. Stock up on any cleaning products you use on hardwoods floors or carpets, and make sure they are out of reach of any children!
