2020 Flooring Trends

2020 Flooring Trends

2020 is finally here, and that means it is time to look at flooring trends for the upcoming year. There is no better time than now to reinvent, remodel, update, or start from scratch in your living space. There are so many options in today’s market between various flooring products and manufacturers, which can make it difficult to make a selection. Don’t worry…we’re here to help! As with most remodeling decisions, you will want to choose a material and style that is trendy but will remain stylish for many years to come. If you are considering new flooring for your home, we have put together a short list of the most popular flooring designs this year. Take a look at these trends below and discover the different ways to incorporate them in your home and how you can personalize them.

Eco-friendly & Sustainable Materials

Now more than ever, homeowners are more environmentally conscious, and natural products are becoming more popular. Many different materials can be eco-friendly, not just natural woods or bamboo. Certain luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and laminate flooring products are using gentler, more eco-friendly materials as opposed to noxious chemicals of years past. Sustainability can also refer to the impact of the supply chain on the environment, use of natural resources, or the manufacturing process. Another way that manufacturers are embracing the focus on sustainability is through biophilic design – integrating natural tones and organic materials into their designs. Consumers are looking to get back to the basics and keep things natural but incorporating the outdoors into their interiors. Expect this trend to stick around!

Black & White Tile

This vintage look is making a big comeback! Not as simple as the old-fashioned checkerboard patterns (although don’t count those out), look for bold, graphic black and white patterns. More homeowners are looking for a luxurious, unique twist on the vintage flooring style. In addition to looking great on its own, it can be paired with almost any color or design elements for a totally custom finish.

WPC (Especially in the bathroom!)

WPC stands for wood plastic composite, but it is commonly referred to as “waterproof core”. These floors are best known for being 100% waterproof, being low maintenance, and having practically limitless design options. The fact that it is fully waterproof and extremely durable, is causing homeowners to opt for WPC in those pesky water-prone areas. You can buy WPC flooring in nearly any color or pattern, many of which are designed to look like other flooring types, such as hardwood and tile. The ability to resemble many different materials, including distressed and hand-scraped looks, without the care and maintenance, is making it one of the hottest trends this year.

Wood-Look Flooring

Speaking of resembling different types of flooring, this brings us to our next trend in 2020: wood-look flooring. This trend has been growing in popularity for a few years now, and this year will be no different. Wood-look planks come in many styles and colors, and many appear incredibly realistic. Technology has gotten so good that it can even replicate the feel of real wood by embossing grainy textures and distressed styles. Opting for wood-look materials over real wood means more ease of maintenance and moisture resistance, and surfaces are easier to clean. In this day and age, people are looking for materials that are both stylish and practical, and these fit in both categories.
