Have a customer that has applied Murphy’s Oil Soap or Orange-Glo Cleaner on their new pre-finished hardwood floor? Something to try is a solution of Ammonia and water. Ammonia should be diluted using a ratio of 4 parts water to 1 part Ammonia. Wearing rubber gloves, soak towels or cloth in this solution and wring them out until nearly dry. Clean the floor with the towels. When the towel becomes dirty, start with a clean towel or you will deposit the dirt back onto the flooring. Do not flood the flooring with this solution. Remember, this is hardwood. Water and wood do not mix.
How much of a concern is the vinyl flooring category in general?
Here is a link that provides some background on a recent study performed on vinyl flooring about phthalates –chemicals used to soften vinyl and has been linked to threats to human health such as asth-ma, brain development and the immune system. Several big box stores were involved in a test of their vinyl products and it was not good news – however, Armstrong vinyl tested phthalate free. Armstrong vinyl, including Alterna, does not contain ortho-phthalates. In fact, all Armstrong vinyl products are also floor score certified – contributing to clean air quality.
