If your first thought when reading the word ‘bamboo’ was panda bear, you’re on the right track. Bamboo is a tree-like plant that has many different uses and grows in many countries all over the world, but is most commonly associated with Asia and South America. One of the main reasons that bamboo is a great flooring resource is because it is a natural material. Bamboo, unlike regular trees, is a sustainable material.  Once bamboo is cut down, it only takes about 5 years to regrow itself, compared to about 50 years for a tree.

  • Strong: Bamboo is one of the strongest natural flooring materials, and is comparable to the strength and durability of hardwood, depending on how it is manufactured.
  • Natural: This renewable resource is great to use for flooring when thinking about how it will impact the environment, but it’s also safe for you and your family.
  • Design: Bamboo flooringis becoming more and more popular in today’s home design, as it fits well with some of the most popular trends and styles.

Cost & Options:

Bamboo is not only comparable in strength and looks to hardwood flooring; it is actually cheaper than hardwood most of the time. While bamboo ranges from about $4.80 to $7.50 per square foot, hardwood usually costs around $8 or $9 per square foot.

When choosing your bamboo flooring, it is important to note that there are 3 different options: engineered bamboo flooring, solid bamboo flooring, and strand-woven bamboo flooring. These different options offer unique styles that produce a different look for each type of bamboo. In addition to a different look, strand woven bamboo is available in the largest variety of colors, and is also the strongest.
