MAINTENANCE FOR RESILIENT FLOORING

Resilient flooring is an excellent value and extraordinarily durable. But maybe one of the most attractive features of resilient flooring is the ease with which it can be maintained. Unlike many other kinds of flooring, resilient flooring is highly resistant to both stains and liquid spills. This makes resilient a perfect choice for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and entryways.

As great as resilient flooring is, there is still some general maintenance you must do in order to keep your flooring looking its best for many years to come. Resilient flooring is already built to last, so by following these simple steps you will get your money’s worth many times over.

PREVENTATIVE MEASURES

Whenever you have appliances or heavy furniture on your floors make sure to place protection underneath. Plastic or felt floor protectors should be placed under tables, chairs or other pieces of furniture.

Use mats at all entrances to prevent debris such as dirt and rocks from being tracked in and across your floor. High quality walk-off mats will capture the vast majority of grit and dirt before it can scratch or soil your floor. Avoid rubber-backed mats because these can permanently stain some vinyl floors.

HOW TO CLEAN RESILIENT FLOORING

Vacuum or sweep your floor regularly to pick up dust and other debris. Wipe up spills quickly. Although most vinyl floors are extremely stain-resistant, nothing is totally stain-proof.

When a deeper clean is required all you really need is a damp mop and the manufacturer’s recommended cleaner. Never use any harsh detergents or chemicals on your resilient floor as these are not needed and may cause damage. Dish washing detergent and oil soaps, for example, leave a soapy residue that dirt will stick to and cause your floor to need more frequent cleaning. Be sure to read the manufacturer guidelines that come with your flooring as they will have specific care instructions to prevent you from voiding your warranty.
